John received his formal art training at the prestigious Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Graduating in 1973, he still enjoys graphic design, creative Web graphics, and painting both murals and his fine art. The Crum family moved from the north coast town of Bay Village, Ohio to Hilton Head Island in the summer of 2001. John now pursues his painting full time, inspired by the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry. His original paintings and prints are displayed in several regional galleries, by individuals, and in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Africa.
“My art reflects on emotions and issues in a whimsical way, capturing the magic of the world around us. My goal is to invoke feelings of peace, romance, and enlightenment while having fun along the way. I consider a painting successful when it makes the viewer pause, take a closer look, and then smile.”
